2001 Fatality Accidents

2001 Traffic Fatality #1 (01-03-01, 2:46 am), I-20 westbound over Carrier Pkwy
A motorcyclist was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle while crossing an icy bridge. He was then run over by a drunk driver. He died at the scene.

2001 Traffic Fatality #2 (01-05-01, 10:27 pm), 2800 E Main St.
A 20-year-old man had been out celebrating his birthday and was intoxicated (BAC 0.21%). He allowed his pick-up truck to drift off the south side of the roadway and collided with a tree. He died at the scene.

2001 Traffic Fatality #3 (03-06-01, 1:25 am), US 287 at FM 661
An 18 year old female was intoxicated (BAC 0.24%) and under the influence of marijuana when she allowed her car to cross the center lane divider on US 287 and collide with an 18-wheeler. She died at the scene.

2001 Traffic Fatality #4-8 (03-10-01, 4:00 am), 600 W Wildlife Pkwy
Five teenage boys were killed when the Ford Mustang they were riding in lost control at a high speed and crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding with a truck tractor. All five were dead at the scene.

2001 Traffic Fatality #9 (03-29-02, 7:55 pm), 1600 W I-20 north frontage road
A 50-year old female pedestrian was walking toward oncoming traffic on the unlighted service road when she was struck by a westbound vehicle. She was airlifted to a trauma center and later died.

2001 Traffic Fatality #10 (04-10-01, 3:23 pm), Pioneer Pkwy at Corn Valley Rd
A 3-year-old girl was killed when her 17-year-old mother ran a red light and collided with another car. The child was unrestrained and died enroute to the hospital. The driver was charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide.

2001 Traffic Fatality #11 (05-22-01, 7:29 am), Robinson Rd at Crossland Blvd.
An 81-year-old man was killed when he pulled out from a stop sign in his pick up truck and was struck by a northbound car. He was airlifted to a trauma center and later died.

2001 Traffic Fatality #12 (06-01-01, 10:08 pm), 7800 Lake Ridge Pkwy
A 37 year old man was intoxicated (BAC 0.18% and marijuana) and driving at a high speed southbound on Lake Ridge Pkwy when he failed to negotiate a curve. He lost control of his pick up truck and vaulted between the bridge rails at the north end of a bridge that spans Joe Pool Lake. The truck plummeted into the lake below. The man died at the scene.

2001 Traffic Fatality #13 (06-28-01, 10:19 pm), SE 8th St at Bluebonnet Dr.
A 20 year-old man was driving under the influence of marijuana and travelling at a high speed northbound on SE 8th St when he lost control of his pick-up truck and struck a tree. A 17-year old male passenger was airlifted to a trauma center and later died. Another passenger was seriously injured. The driver was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.

2001 Traffic Fatality #14 (07-11-01, 7:15 am) Polo Rd at Carrier Pkwy.
A 20-year-old male was speeding and lost control of his car, which crossed the center median, struck several small trees, and crashed into a truck in the opposing traffic lanes. He was airlifted to a trauma center and later died.

2001 Traffic Fatality #15 (07-31-01, 10:50 pm) 2700 Sherman St
A 40-year-old female was under the influence of cocaine and passed out in a lane of traffic. She was struck by a passing vehicle and dragged 200 feet. The vehicle that struck her did not stop and remains at large.

2001 Traffic Fatality #16 (09-02-01, 5:28 am) 2900 E I-30, near MacArthur.
A drunk driver was driving slowly on a flat tire westbound on I-30 when his car was struck from behind by another vehicle. The 31 year old male passenger was unrestrained and died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the car was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.

2001 Traffic Fatality #17 (10-17-01, 6:52 pm) 1400 SE 14th St, near Garrett.
A 48 year-old man was killed when his motorcycle was struck from behind by a car that was racing another car. The victim died at the scene. The man driving the car was charged with Manslaughter.

2001 Traffic Fatality #18 (10-17-01, 10:57 pm) 500 Choctaw Trace.
A 32-year old man was riding a motorcycle at a high speed on a residential street when he lost control and collided with a parked truck. He was airlifted to a trauma center where he later died.

2001 Traffic Fatality #19 and 20 (12-24-01, 10:25 pm), Belt Line Rd at Coral Way.
Three pedestrians were struck by a drunk driver (BAC 0.17%) as they attempted to cross Belt Line Rd to attend Christmas Mass services. Two of the pedestrians died at the scene and the third was seriously injured. The driver of the car was charged with two counts of Manslaughter, one count of Intoxication Assault and three counts of Felony Hit and Run.
