Patrol is the "backbone" of the police department and is the department's largest organization. All police officers in Grand Prairie begin their police career in the patrol division.

Patrol officers provide initial response to calls for service and are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year. They are courteous professionals who are committed to the department's community oriented policing philosophy. These are the officers you see patrolling your neighborhoods and businesses. They are the "thin blue line" that separates decent hardworking citizens from criminal predators.

Patrol officers are assigned to specific geograpical areas of the city called "beats."
