The
Grand Prairie police department detention facility is part of the Support
Services division which is under the direction of Deputy Chief Mike
Taylor. It is a podular remote facility with the capacity to house 120
inmates. The jail consists of four cell blocks which include five holding
tanks and forty-eight beds. There are also three separate cells for
short term housing of juvenile offenders.
The detention facility
is equipped with state of the art video surveillance equipment.
This
equipment enables the tower control officer on duty to monitor the facility
on three monitors which provide him with thirty-eight different camera
views. The tower officer can also open and close cell doors from his
station.
There is currently
one detention manager, four detention supervisors and seventeen detention
officers assigned to the facility.
