Is Crime Stoppers part of the Grand Prairie Police Department?

No. It is important to understand that Grand Prairie Crime Stoppers (GPCS) is a private, non-profit entity. Grand Prairie Crime Stoppers does not complete any investigative work. The Grand Prairie Police Department assigns a Police Coordinator to the organization. The coordinator receives the tips and works with the Police Department to complete any investigation. If the tip helps solve a crime or leads to the apprehension of a wanted subject, then a reward may be paid out for that information.

Is Crime Stoppers really anonymous?

Grand Prairie Crime Stoppers is governed by Texas Government Code 414. Government Code 414.008 protects the information given to Crime Stoppers, making it privileged and ensuring a tipsters anonymity. Our tip line does not ask for any personal information of a tipster including name, address, location. Because of the use of unique ID numbers and the fact that there is no collection of personal information, it is virtually impossible to trace where the tip came from.
