Teen Police Academy

The Grand Prairie Police Department offers a free Teen Police Academy one week each summer for those students who are currently in 8th grade about to be 9th graders who may be interested in learning more about a career in law enforcement and how the police department functions.

Applicants must have successfully completed the 8th grade and pass a background check, including school discipline referrals.

Topics Covered

Some of the topics to be covered in the academy include:

  • History of Law Enforcement
  • Patrol Procedures
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • K-9 and SWAT

Participants will be able to put what they learn into action by working a mock crime scene and using their new skills and knowledge to solve the crime.
