Starting: $25.50 per hour/ $53,040 per year*
Top Out: - $37.73 per hour/ $78,486 per year
Team Lead
Starting: $29.35 per hour/ $61,066 per year*
Top Out: $44.83 per hour/ $93,249 per year
Supervisor
Starting: $32.00 per hour/ $66,562 per year*
Top Out: $48.86 per hour/ $101,641 per year
Emergency Services Team
Highly skilled Emergency Communications employees work side by side with city, local, state and federal agencies to provide the highest quality of service to our citizens. Emergency Communications work can be challenging, but highly rewarding.
As a Community Liaison, we play a large role in protecting and saving lives on a daily basis.
Schedule
We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays and weekends, so flexibility in your schedule is a must. After graduating the Communications Academy, you will be assigned to 1 of 4 teams, working a 12 hour shift that meets the needs of the Emergency Communications Center.
Requirements
- Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Be t least 18 years of age
- Type a minimum of 35 wpm
- 1 year of customer service experience
- Emergency Communications Specialists must have the ability to think clearly and remain calm under pressure or urgency must be able to follow instructions
- Ability to properly handle several tasks at one time and demonstrate good judgment
- Must be able to work in a team environment;
- Must be able to work shift work, weekends, holidays, and attend schools when requested.
Background / Character
Applicants will undergo a background investigation.
Applicants with felony convictions will not be considered for employment.
Applicants cannot be on probation for any offense on the date of application.
No DWI/DUI convictions within the last 120 months/10 years.
No applicant may be certified as eligible for appointment to the position of Communications Specialist whose drug usage does not comply with those standards set by the City of Grand Prairie Civil Service Commission.
Citizenship
Must be U.S. Citizen.

Driver’s License
Applicants must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and have no more than two events (moving violations or accidents) in the 24 months preceding the date of application. Out of state applicants may apply, but must obtain a Texas driver’s license upon employment with the city.
